French painter Nathalie Autour was born in Paris in 1962 and now lives and works in Montmartre. Since childhood, she has drawn and painted with passion. In 1981, after three years' study at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Modernes in Paris, she embarked on a professional career in interior architecture and design.
In the early 2000s, the artist created her first large-format works. On canvas, compositions of rectangles are organized in "verticality", the watchword of a pictorial work that gives rise to imaginary urban atmospheres. She mainly uses acrylic paint and mixed techniques, expressing herself through contrast, matter and transparency.
2015: Breaking with verticality
For some time now, Nathalie Autour has been looking for a way out of the rigors of high-rise buildings and into a more streamlined graphic style..
"New Horizons": a need to escape!
Demanding a deep work, expressing an inner strength mixed with violence and resignation, the artist seeks appeasement in her new works. Black often dominates, not for its sadness and negative representation, but on the contrary for its elegance, depth and fascination..
Between nocturnal atmosphere and diurnal radiance, thanks to the richness of her chromatic variations, the artist gives her canvases all their singularity. Nathalie Autour's artistic approach is one of suggestion. Nothing is ever said, nor is anything definitive. Whatever the themes she explores, the viewer is free to choose his or her interpretation.
