French painter Nathalie Autour, born in Paris in 1962, now lives and works in Montmartre. She has been drawing and painting passionately since childhood. In 1981, after three years of study at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Modernes in Paris, she embarked on a professional career in interior architecture and design.
In the early 2000s, the artist created her first large-format works. On canvas, compositions of rectangles are organised in a "verticality" that is the key word of a pictorial work that gives rise to imaginary urban atmospheres. She mainly uses acrylic paint and mixed media, expressing herself through contrast, texture and transparency.
2015: Breaking with verticality
Nathalie Autour has been searching for some time for an escape from the rigour of towers and a more refined graphic style...
'Horizons Nouveaux' (New Horizons): a need to escape!
Demanding deep work, expressing an inner strength mixed with violence and resignation, the artist seeks peace in her new works. Black often dominates, not for its sadness and negative representation, but on the contrary for its elegance, depth and the fascination it evokes...
Between nocturnal atmosphere and daytime radiance, thanks to the richness of her chromatic variations, the artist gives her canvases their unique character. Nathalie Autour's artistic approach is one of suggestion. Nothing is ever said, nor definitive. Whatever themes she explores, the viewer is free to choose their own interpretation.
